Volleyball tops Hartwick to post another 3-0 win

ALBANY, N.Y. - The Williams College women's volleyball team posted its fifth straight 3-0 victory on Friday night, defeating Hartwick at Russell Sage College to extend the squad's season-opening streak.

The Ephs (5-0) will be in action again on Saturday, facing Union at noon and SUNY New Paltz at 2 p.m. from the Viniar Athletic Center in Schenectady, New York.

Friday night's victory again featured a balanced attack, with Keely Campuzano leading the team with seven kills, just ahead of Helen Qian and Tatum Baker with six each. Chi Obi recorded five, while Kate Lane compiled four. Lilly Carstens had 17 assists and Morgan Daetz had 10.

Williams set the tone early, winning the first set, 25-14, and the second by a 25-18 score. The third set was more of a battle, with Hartwick leading, 14-11, but the Ephs went on a run to regain the lead at 16-14, utilizing a pair of service aces from Baker.

The Hawks (3-5) continued to push and even took a 23-21 advantage late in the set, but Williams earned the final four points of the set, finishing the match with a block by Campuzano and Qian.

This is the final weekend of non-conference play for the Ephs before opening NESCAC competition on Friday, Sept. 19, at Trinity (7 p.m.) and facing Connecticut College (2 p.m.) on the road next Saturday.
