WORCESTER, Mass. – Williams College secured a 0-0 draw against Clark University on Sunday, concluding their second match of the weekend. The Ephs now stand at 4-1-1 overall and 3-1 in NESCAC play.
The match saw both teams recording comparable stats, with Williams edging Clark in total shots (11-8), while the Cougars held a slight advantage in shots on goal (4-2).
Williams' goalkeeper,
Margaret Huelin, earned her fifth shutout of the season, with four saves throughout the game this afternoon. Huelin was called into action early, making two crucial saves in the first half to keep the game scoreless and ensure the Ephs' defense remained intact.
Senior
Brianna Wright was the first Eph to record a shot on goal, sending a shot just wide of the goal with four minutes remaining in the first half. Williams had been pressing the Cougars' defense down the left side, and Wright's attempt nearly gave the Ephs the lead as the team continued to build pressure.
Senior captain
Ansley Burns added the Ephs' second shot on goal in the 57th minute. After a series of attacks, the ball fell to Burns at the top of the box, but her shot was saved by Clark's goalkeeper Gabrielle Huryn.
On the defensive end, Huelin came up big again with a pair of crucial saves with 22 minutes left in the second half. The first save came off a free kick, and the second was an impressive one-on-one stop to maintain the deadlock.
The Ephs will return to NESCAC action on Saturday, Sept. 27th, at 11:00 AM, when they host Colby College at Cole Field, and will finish a busy weekend on Sunday against Bowdoin College at noon.
