WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - Five different student-athletes recorded at least one point for the No. 4-ranked Williams College men's soccer team Sunday afternoon, as the Ephs rallied back from a two-goal deficit during a 3-3 tie against Bowdoin on Cole Field.
"It was a fantastic effort and play from the team this weekend, which was rewarded with four points against two great teams," said head coach
Steffen Siebert. "Now it is time to recover, and then focus on next weekend's doubleheader in Maine."
The Polar Bears (4-2-2, 1-2-2 NESCAC) raced out to a 2-0 advantage, but the resilient Ephs (5-0-3, 4-0-2 NESCAC) responded with three consecutive goals before a late goal by Bowdoin knotted the game at 3-3.
Tyler Huck, who scored all three goals for the visitors, found the back of the net during the 11th and 54th minutes. Sophomore
Ben Brown put Williams on the scoreboard in the 65th minute, as he buried a shot into the goal with a great deal of velocity from just beyond the left attacking side of the 18-yard box.
Junior
Leon Ma posted his first collegiate point with an assist on a tremendous pass in the 79th minute, as he played a ball into the air perfectly onto the feet of sophomore
Lorcan Mitchell in the box. Mitchell corralled the ball among two defenders, took his time and placed a shot into the bottom right corner of the net, equalizing the game at 2-2.
During the 85th minute, Ma passed to sophomore
Luca Ruta on the left side of the field, and then Ruta dribbled around a defender and played a cross into the box, earning his first collegiate point with an assist. Sophomore
Alex Bethencourt was on the other end of the pass and headed the ball into the bottom left corner of the net, giving the group the lead for the first time at 3-2. Huck completed his hat trick with 1:58 on the clock for Bowdoin.
Williams held a 22-11 lead in shots and an 8-6 advantage in shots on goal. The Ephs attempted six corner kicks, including five in the second half, while the Polar Bears took three in the game.
The Ephs will be back in action Saturday at 2 p.m. against Bates in Lewiston, Maine.
