AMHERST, MA. - The Williams College men's basketball team battled throughout but fell 61–45 to Amherst College on Wednesday night in a Little Three matchup at LeFrak Gymnasium.
With the result, the Ephs moved to 10–7 overall, while the Mammoths improved to 12–5 on the season.
The Ephs stayed within striking distance through the opening half, trailing 32–30 at the break, but Amherst pulled away in the second half outscoring Williams 29-15.
Aidan Yates led the Ephs with 14 points on 5-for-10 shooting from the field, connecting on a pair of three-pointers, and two made free throws. Yates added 11 rebounds to record his first double-double of the season.
Hudson Hansen matched Yates' scoring with 14 points of his own, going 4-for-6 from the floor while also converting 5-of-7 free throws.
Jackson Rein finished with 6 points, while
Solomon Marshall added 3 points in limited minutes.
Matt DeVine contributed 4 points off the bench, and
EJ Sommers and
Wes Gudeman with two points apiece.
Williams shot 32% from the field on the night, connecting on 6 of 28 from three-point range and going 7-for-11 at the free-throw line. The Ephs battled inside but were limited to 18 points in the paint and managed just 2 fast-break points as Amherst's defense dictated the pace.
Amherst was led by Nate Pabis with 18 points.
Williams will look to regroup as it continues NESCAC play on the road at Middlebury on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
