WILLIAMSTOWN, MA. — The Williams College women's basketball team fell 62–51 to Middlebury College on Saturday afternoon at Chandler Athletic Center in a NESCAC matchup.
With the result, the Ephs moved to 9–9 overall and 3–2 in league action, while the Panthers improved to 11–7 and 2–3 in NESCAC competition.
Williams and Middlebury traded momentum throughout the afternoon in a physically contested matchup. After a back-and-forth first half, Williams held a narrow 31-25 lead heading into halftime. In the third quarter, the Panthers outscored the Ephs 14-8, before pulling away in the fourth behind timely scoring and defensive stops to secure the road victory.
Micah Walton led the Ephs with 18 points, shooting 8-for-12 from the field with two rebounds and two assists.
Kathleen Smith recorded 12 points and pulled down six rebounds, while
Hanorah Murphy chipped in 6 points, and
Logan Coster added 5 in key minutes.
Off the bench,
Gracie Augustine scored 4 points, and
Sarah Pettegrove and
Evelyn Walcott contributed 2 points apiece.
As a team, Williams shot 42.9% from the field and went 1-for-6 from three-point range, while converting all of its free-throw attempts. The Ephs battled on the boards, finishing with 29 rebounds, led by
Tatum Leuenberger who pulled down a team-high of nine boards.
Middlebury was led by Islay Moore, who scored 16 points, and Catherine Carrafiello added 14 to help the Panthers secure the road victory.
The Ephs continue NESCAC play on Friday, January 30
th at 7 p.m. as they host Bates College.
