#12 Ephs Collect 2-0 Victory at Farmingdale State

The Williams College women's soccer team scored a goal in each half Monday

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — Sophomore midfielder Lucy Carrel of the No. 12-ranked Williams College women's soccer team buried her third collegiate game-winning goal during the 23rd minute Monday afternoon, as the Ephs went on the road and secured a 2-0 non-conference triumph against Farmingdale State.

"I am proud of the mature performance we had today," said seventh-year head coach Sarah Raymond. "Farmingdale did a great job of closing down our options and defending in good ways, but we were patient, composed and persistent with building attack after attack."

The Ephs (8-2-0, 6-1-0 NESCAC) outshot the Rams (7-4-2, 4-1-1 Skyline Conference), 14-2, including holding advantages of 6-1 in the first half and 8-1 during the final 45 minutes. Junior goalkeeper Chelsea Mohammed made two saves and earned her fourth individual shutout of the season.

During the 23rd minute, sophomore Maya Lloyd intercepted a pass by the Rams near the midfield line, and then proceeded to dribble around a defender in the Ephs' attacking zone. She placed a through ball into the 18-yard box, as Carrel attempted a one-timer that deflected off the goalkeeper's hand and found its way into the bottom right corner of the goal.

Williams created some breathing room in the 58th minute, with junior Greta Pew connecting on a pass with Lloyd, who one-touched a through ball down the right attacking side. Junior Elizabeth Stophel caught up with the ball and utilized outstanding footwork before making her way around a Farmingdale State defender and into the box. Stophel slid a pass into the middle, and then senior captain Bria Abbiati buried a turnaround shot into the bottom left corner.

"The whole team helped hold the standard and our level," said Raymond. "We could see our playing identity throughout. It is always tough to adjust to turf, but we did in good ways today by focusing in on our execution. Overall, it was a fantastic weekend for us and we are clicking in good ways now. I cannot wait for what might be next."

The Ephs have shut out 7-of-10 opponents this season, relinquishing only three total goals and never more than one in a game. Williams has scored a total of 23 goals, as Lloyd and Abbiati have compiled identical statistical lines with five goals, three assists and 13 points, respectively.

The Ephs compete against Little Three-rival Wesleyan on Saturday at noon in Middletown, Connecticut.
