#8 Ephs Battle #3 Tufts to 1-1 Draw

Both goals were scored in the first half Saturday afternoon

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Sophomore Maya Lloyd of the eighth-ranked Williams College women's soccer team scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season, as the Ephs competed with No. 3 Tufts to a 1-1 tie Saturday afternoon on Cole Field.

"I am proud of how hard we competed today," said seventh-year head coach Sarah Raymond. "We created many good chances and looked dangerous against a top-ranked team in Tufts. It is a great confidence moment for this team knowing it can compete with and outplay anyone."

Lloyd opened the scoring for the Ephs (10-2-1, 7-1-1 NESCAC), as she buried a shot off an outstanding pass by junior Elizabeth Stophel in the 14th minute. Lloyd and Stophel have provided relentless pressure on opposing defenses, combining for 22 goals and 20 assists over the last two seasons.

During the 20th minute, junior Lily Mark fought for the ball with great perseverance on the right attacking side, and then centered a pass into the 18-yard box. Senior captain Bria Abbiati fired a shot, but Tufts' goalkeeper Gigi Edwards made an incredible diving save. The Jumbos (10-0-3, 6-0-3 NESCAC) pulled even at 1-1 during the 35th minute when Emily Nicholas netted a shot off a right-side corner kick by Maren Jones.

"While we are disappointed with the final result, we are excited to finish the regular season with another great performance on Tuesday and get ready to host at home on Saturday," said Raymond. "A shoutout to some of our younger student-athletes with the amount of competitive heart and spirit they showed, in particular Lucy Carrel, Taryn Reohr and Alli Aleman."

The Ephs held an 18-10 lead in shots and an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks. Abbiati led all student-athletes with five shots and three on target. Edwards made five saves for the Jumbos and junior goalie Chelsea Mohammed denied four shots for the Ephs.

The Ephs will compete in their final regular-season game on Tuesday at Middlebury with kickoff set for 3 p.m. Williams has guaranteed itself a top-two seed in the NESCAC Tournament and a win on Tuesday will ensure the Ephs the No. 1 seed.
