Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

#8 Ephs Outlast Bates, 1-0, during NESCAC Quarterfinals

The Williams College women's soccer team will host the Final Four of the conference tournament on Nov. 7-8

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — When the pressure mounts, sophomore Chloe Lee raises her game to another level, as the forward on the top-seeded and No. 8-ranked Williams College women's soccer team buried her second game-winning goal of the week during a 1-0 triumph against eighth-seeded Bates in the NESCAC Quarterfinals Saturday on Cole Field.

With the victory, the Ephs (12-2-1, 8-1-1 NESCAC) will host the semifinal and final rounds of the conference tournament on Saturday, Nov. 7, and Sunday, Nov. 8, on Cole Field. The last time the Ephs hosted the Final Four was in 2018, as that team was also the top seed.

"We knew it was going to be a really tough battle as Bates is such an improved team from the beginning of the year," said seventh-year head coach Sarah Raymond. "The Bobcats tested and pushed us in every way, but I am proud of my group for hanging strong and finding a way to put one in, while withstanding all the pressure in the last 15 minutes. Chloe's goal was amazing."

During the 79th minute, junior defender Abby Collis found sophomore midfielder Taryn Reohr on the right attacking side. Reohr located Lee, who then dribbled down the right side of the 18-yard box and buried a left-footed strike into the right side of the net, finding a little spot in between the goalkeeper and the post.

The Ephs outshot the Bobcats (7-7-2, 3-6-1 NESCAC), 9-3, and held a 5-1 advantage in shots on goal. Junior Elle Long led all student-athletes with four shots and two on target. Williams has gone undefeated in its last 16 meetings against Bates, going 14-0-2 during that span.

For the 10th time this season, Williams refused to allow its opponent to score, as junior goalkeeper Chelsea Mohammed was credited with her sixth individual shutout. The hosts attempted 11 corner kicks and the visitors were awarded two.

"It was an ugly game, but we got the result that we wanted," said Raymond. "We now get to host next weekend, which we have worked hard all year to do. I am excited to rest, recover and return to full strength this week."

The Ephs will host fifth-seeded and No. 25 Middlebury at 10:45 a.m. during the NESCAC Semifinals on Saturday, Nov. 7, in Williamstown, Massachusetts.
