BRUNSWICK, Maine — Senior captain
Ahn Lin compiled a sensational weekend during the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) New England Regional, as she won five singles matches and advanced to the championship round of the B Singles Draw Sunday on the campus of Bowdoin College.
"We are walking away with a lot of positives and a lot of lessons from the ITA Regional," said 10th-year head coach
Anik Cepeda. "The most important things are building from these matches and applying the lessons to our practices and lifts. We will continue to work on committing to patient, solid and high percentage tennis that plays into our individual strengths."
During the semifinal round Sunday, Lin emerged victorious, 2-6, 6-4 (10-7), against sophomore Maya Muhunthan of Amherst, 8-4. In the championship match, sophomore Naomi Williams of Bowdoin posted a 6-4, 6-1 victory.
Lin began Saturday by defeating sophomore Claudia Grove of Tufts, 8-4, in the Round of 32. She persevered in a competitive 8-6 result during the Round of 16 against first-year Pavith Khara of Bowdoin. During the quarterfinal round, she recorded an 8-4 triumph against first-year Gabrielle Shiao of Amherst. On Friday in the Round of 64, Lin outlasted junior Asahi Goods of Connecticut College, 8-3.
Williams compiled many impressive performances in opening-day action Friday. During the A Singles Draw in the Round of 64, Finchelstein defeated senior Alexandra Burnett of Wesleyan in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, and then outlasted first-year June Kim of Bates in a three-set thriller, 7-6, 3-6, 10-6, in Round of 32 action.
Sophomores
Zoe Yao and
Katelyn Wu teamed up in the Doubles Draw, emerging victorious, 8-4, over senior Naisha Rathi and sophomore Emilia Romano of Trinity in the Round of 64. During the Round of 32, the pair defeated junior Chloe Zeng and sophomore Rayna Li of MIT, 8-6.

Julia Zhang and Lin took care of business in the Round of 32, winning, 8-6, against juniors Sophie Buttorff and Nandini Patel of Wellesley. During the B Singles Draw in the Round of 64, Yao won by a score of 8-4 against sophomore Galia Harmelin of Brandeis.
The Ephs compete in the New England Women's Invitational Tennis Tournament (NEWITT) Friday-Sunday next weekend at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts.
