Ephs drop match at Dartmouth as first-year Chen earns win

HANOVER, N.H. - First-year Alicia Chen was the sole Eph to take a win as the #16 Williams College women's squash team dropped an 8-1 result at #11 Dartmouth College on Wednesday evening in New Hampshire.

Chen, playing at #7, earned the victory in epic fashion, going the distance to win 3-2 in a match where the last two games were decided by the narrowest margin. Chen had leads of 1-0 and 2-1 before her opponent forced a fifth with a 12-10 win in the fourth game. The first-year kept her nerve to take the deciding set 11-9.

Four other Ephs (Frances Brooks at #4, Roshni Pal at #5, Naomi Jefferson-Sambanis at #8 and Mahika Gupta at #9) all won a game in their matches.

It was the final match for the Ephs before heading to Hamilton this weekend for the NESCAC Championships, where the team has the #5 seed and will face #4 Middlebury (ranked 13th nationally). The winner will take on the winner of the #1 Trinity vs. #8 Wesleyan match on Sunday morning.
