Three Ephs compete at NCAA Diving Regionals Friday

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Three Ephs from the Williams College men's and women's swimming & diving teams traveled down to Connecticut College to compete in the first day of the NCAA Division III Regional Diving competition Friday. This meet is contested every year in order to make NCAA selections. Ashley Loh, Calder Biondi and Haochen Liu all qualified for this meet with their scores from the entirety of this season.

In this first day of competition, the men contested the 3-meter board, while the women competed on the 1-meter board. Out of 12 divers, Liu and Biondi placed second and third, respectively. This puts both of them in a great position to seal their NCAA invite tomorrow. The region will take the top-four men that qualify between the two boards to the national championships in Indianapolis in a few weeks.

Liu finished his 11 dives with a total score of 482.10. His best dive came from the seventh round when he scored a 58.80 on his 107C. Biondi was right behind, finishing with a score of 479.20. Biondi had a particularly strong last four rounds. His top dive was a 107B, which scored 55.80.

On the women's side, Loh placed 13th on the 1-meter board out of 27 competitors. Loh competed 11 dives and totaled a score of 401.45. Her best dive was in the sixth round, as her 403B scored a 42.00. Her last three rounds were also particularly strong, scoring just over 40 points in all three rounds.

The three divers will swap boards and compete once more tomorrow. At the end of tomorrow, selections will be made.
