BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Williams College men's lacrosse team lost 17-7 in a road matchup against the Bowdoin College Polar Bears that took place in the early evening after a weather-related scheduling delay. A close game early, the Polar Bears raced ahead of the Ephs in the third quarter, as the undefeated Polar Bears brought home the victory.
With the loss, Williams falls to 3-2, while Bowdoin improves to 4-0 with its win.
Both teams' defenses led the way early, as neither team scored in the first six minutes of play. After Bowdoin got on the board, the Ephs' Jack Sartorius responded with a goal five minutes later off of a nice feed from Will Doran. Bowdoin scored once more before the end of the period to take a 2-1 advantage, but Charlie Medd's seven first period saves kept the game close.
The second period remained tight. After Bowdoin opened the scoring to up its advantage to 3-1, Wyatt Cotton retaliated in just over a minute to draw the Ephs back to within one. Five minutes later, the Polar Bears re-upped the lead, but once again, the Ephs responded. This time, it was Cade Schuckman finishing an unassisted goal to cut the deficit to 4-3 with five minutes to play in the half.Â
After Schuckman's goal, the Bowdoin offense found more success, with three more conversions before halftime. Sartorius put home his second goal of the day with 1:32 to go in the half to keep Williams in striking distance, as the Ephs went into the locker room down 7-4.
Unfortunately for the Ephs, the Polar Bears took off in the third quarter, scoring two spurts of three consecutive goals, broken up by Schuckman's second goal of the day. Williams entered the fourth period down 13-5.
In the fourth, Tucker Graham scored his first goal of the game and Sartorius finished his hat trick off. The Ephs could not cut the deficit, however, and the final score was 17-7.
The Ephs will look to rebound on the road against RPI on Wednesday. The match will begin at 5 pm.
