REDLANDS, Calif. - Senior captain and shortstop
Alysa DeQuiroz of the Williams College softball team went a combined 3-of-6 batting, to go along with an RBI, during a pair of losses in a doubleheader against University of Redlands Sunday afternoon at the Field of Dreams.
The Ephs are 1-3 overall on the season and the Bulldogs are 18-4 overall and 5-1 in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC). During a 6-0 seven-inning loss in the first game of the doubleheader, DeQuiroz and sophomores
Lauren Davis and
Aprill Medrano each recorded one hit for the Ephs. Katlyn Gandara improved to 9-1 in the circle, giving up no runs or walks, while striking out four and relinquishing three hits.
Avery Provenzano scored the game's first run in the third inning, and then in the fourth, Maya Holshoe (2 for 3, RBI, run, triple) and Provenzano tallied an RBI triple and single, respectively, to push the lead up to 3-0 for the hosts. In the sixth, Redlands tallied a pair of runs off wild pitches and Adyson Kim tallied a one-run double, as the Bulldogs secured the 6-0 triumph. Brooklyn Bard finished 2 for 4 in the batter's box for Redlands.
During an 11-1 five-inning defeat in Game 2, DeQuiroz went 2 for 3, with one RBI, in the batter's box. First-year pitcher
Cassidy Chew was strong in 3 1/3 innings of relief work, giving up no earned runs.
Caitlynn Griffith improved to 4-0 on the season in the circle for Redlands, as she pitched three innings of relief, giving up one run and four hits, while not walking a single batter and striking out five. Jenay Scott went 2-of-3 batting, with one run and one RBI for the Bulldogs.
Redlands jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first inning, which included a three-run double to left-center by Kim and a two-run double to center by Gandara. The Bulldogs added on another run in the second, and then during the top half of the third, DeQuiroz tallied a two-out, RBI single to center, allowing first-year
Annabella Rychetsky to cross home. Rychetsky also tallied her first collegiate hit during the game in the fourth.
The Ephs will compete against Whittier in a doubleheader Tuesday, with game times set for 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Pacific Time in Whittier, California.
