SALISBURY, Md. - The Williams College women's lacrosse team kept the pressure on #4 Salisbury University throughout a close game on Monday afternoon, but the Sea Gulls maintained their advantage throughout the second half and came away with a 12-7 win.
The Ephs were down 3-0 at the end of the first quarter but tied the game up with 3:48 left in the first half, but Salisbury scored with 2:04 remaining to take a 4-3 lead into the break, and never let Williams get closer throughout the second half.
Williams had two goals from three players, including the team's two leading scorers, Franny Donohue and Katy McCullough, and first-year Ella Ryan had the first multi-goal game of her career. Coco Norman had the team's other goal, and Donohue, Ryan, and Anna Miller each notched an assist. Charlotte Cote made 11 saves in goal.
Salisbury had the first two goals of the second half to go up 6-3, and after a McCullough goal, scored three in a row to take a five-goal lead. The Ephs scored just before the end of the third quarter, but could not get any closer.
The Ephs now face a quick turnaround, visiting the University of Scranton on Tuesday afternoon before returning to Williamstown. Scranton has a 5-3 record on the season, having played one of the toughest schedules in Division III, and the Ephs will enter the game with a record of 5-2. Williams will return home on Saturday to face Bates College, with the start set for 12 noon at Farley-Lamb Field.
