AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The Williams College baseball team used a pair of explosive middle innings to rally past Oberlin College, 13-9, in a back-and-forth contest during spring break action. With the win, Williams improves to 5-4 on the season.
Oberlin jumped out to an early lead, scoring twice in the first inning before adding three more in the third to take a 5-0 advantage.
The Ephs began to chip away in the bottom of the third.
Oliver Rey and
Marcus Burrell II each delivered RBI singles to cut the deficit to 5-2. Williams continued the push in the fourth, as
Nate Rosner drove in a run with a single and Burrell II added a sacrifice fly to make it a one-run game.
Williams broke through in a big way in the fifth inning.
Dave Mosrie delivered the key swing with a bases-clearing triple to right field, scoring three runs to give the Ephs their first lead of the day. Mosrie later scored on a sacrifice bunt from
Ben Swank, extending the advantage to 8-5.
Oberlin answered in the sixth, plating four runs to reclaim a 9-8 lead, capitalizing on timely hitting and a Williams error.
The Ephs responded immediately.
Ryan Nakajima launched a two-run home run to right field in the bottom half of the inning, putting Williams back in front, 10-9.
Williams added crucial insurance in the seventh inning. Mosrie connected for a solo home run before Burrell II and
Will Scott followed with RBI doubles to extend the lead to 13-9.
The Ephs' offense proved to be the difference, with Mosrie leading the charge with a triple, a home run, and four RBIs. Burrell II also contributed multiple RBIs, while Nakajima's go-ahead homer highlighted the late-inning surge.
Williams is back in action on Friday, March 27
th as they begin their first NESCAC series against Hamilton College.Â
