WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The 20th-ranked Williams College men's lacrosse team dropped Wednesday evening's battle against top-ranked Tufts University by a score of 26-12. The Ephs got five goals from Jack Sartorius, four from Will Doran alongside a pair of assists, two from Ryan Johnson and a single goal from Kai Switlick, the first of his career.
The first quarter saw the visitors jump out to a big lead, as Tufts scored the first six goals of the game. The Ephs held a good deal of possession but the Jumbos created turnovers and passed downfield quickly, and had strong shooting accuracy throughout. Sartorius scored to make the score 7-1, but Tufts got four more before the end of the period.
The Ephs got a second quarter goal from Sartorius but were outscored 5-1 in the quarter as the Jumbos goalie Jack Old made seven saves against four goals in his time in net. The Ephs got the offense moving faster in the third quarter, with three goals: two from Doran with an assist on one from Davis Miller, and one from Johnson, but the Jumbos' sharp shooting continued and the visitors extended the lead.
In the fourth quarter, the Ephs managed to capitalize on more chances, outscoring Tufts 7-3 in the final session. Williams scored four of the game's final five goals, all as a result of strong team play and good passing, as each had assists: two for Doran, one for Nick Reich, and one for Cade Schuckman.
Williams used three goalies in the contest, with Charlie Medd making 11 saves, Lewis Schrock making three, and Colin Decker making four saves.
The Ephs will take the weekend off before returning to action at home against Hamilton College in a week, with the game on Wednesday, April 8 starting at 5 p.m. on Farley-Lamb Field.
