WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The Williams College women's lacrosse team lost 15-6 to Middlebury College in the regular season finale for both teams. The Ephs will enter the postseason with a record of 5-5 in the NESCAC and 9-6 overall, earning the sixth seed in the upcoming NESCAC tournament, the team's highest seed since the 2014 season.
Early on, the Panthers (10-0 NESCAC, 15-0 overall) took an advantage they would hold throughout, scoring the game's first four goals and finishing the opening quarter with a 6-1 lead.
Katy McCullough scored the first goal of the game for the Ephs off an assist from
Franny Donohue.
Donohue scored twice to open the second quarter to cut the lead to 6-3, but Middlebury scored five straight to close the half, and four more to open the third quarter to take a commanding lead. The Ephs scored the game's final three goals: two from Donohue with an assist to
CeCe Upton on the second, and one from
Ainsley Abel off an assist from
Ella Ryan.
Charlotte Cote made seven saves in goal for the Ephs, and
Anna Miller led the hosts with four ground balls.
The Ephs will await a result between Wednesday night's game between Tufts and Bowdoin to learn their opponent to open the NESCAC Tournament this weekend.
