WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - After going 11-5 overall and 7-3 in NESCAC competition this semester, the fourth-seeded and No. 20-ranked Williams College men's tennis team is excited for its NESCAC Quarterfinal matchup against fifth-seeded and No. 17 Amherst Friday, starting at 9 a.m. on Wesleyan University's John Wood Memorial Tennis Courts in Middletown, Connecticut.

The Ephs and Mammoths (12-5, 7-3 NESCAC) competed in an ultra-competitive match on April 19, as Amherst prevailed by a score of 4-3 on its home court. Each of the last three matches between the two programs have been decided by one point. Amherst is on a two-game winning streak in the rivalry, but prior to that, Williams won four consecutive against Amherst, including a 5-0 victory in the NESCAC Quarterfinals on April 28, 2023, at the Hunt Tennis Center.

The successful team will play the winner of the top-seeded/No. 4 Tufts and eighth-seeded/No. 51 Bates quarterfinal match Saturday at 11 a.m. during the semifinals in Middletown, Connecticut. The championship match will take place at Wesleyan on Sunday at 11 a.m.

Williams, which is led by head coach Dan Greenberg and assistant Andrew Dorr, won at then-No. 15 Middlebury, 6-1, on April 4, while also defeating No. 24 Wesleyan and No. 17 Pomona-Pitzer by the identical score of 4-3 on March 7 and 27, respectively. The Ephs have been led in singles competition by first-year William Luke (11-4), senior captain Nicholas Chen (11-5), first-year Anthony Lim (10-4) and sophomore Jack Ling (10-5). Senior captain Simon Volkema has compiled a record of 7-7 at the No. 1 singles position.

Sophomore Robert Cooper Jr. has gone 7-4 in singles, while first-year Matthew Yang has compiled a 3-0 mark in doubles. Sophomore Carter Fayard has tallied a 10-6 record at the second doubles position, while junior Leon Liu and Diego Marin have recorded a perfect 2-0 effort in singles competition, respectively.
