HARTFORD, Conn. - Starting pitchers
Sadie Leonard and
Katie Blanch of the Williams College softball team threw a combined 14 innings and struck out 23 batters, while only allowing one run, as the Ephs went 2-0 against Trinity on Friday afternoon to begin NESCAC action during the 2026 season.
The Ephs improved to 10-8 overall and 2-0 in the NESCAC, while the Bantams currently sit at 8-6 overall and 2-2 in the conference. Williams has won eight consecutive games against Trinity dating back to the 2023 season.
The Ephs won the first game, 5-0, as senior
Sidney Miller went 2-of-4 batting, with two doubles, two runs and one RBI. Leonard pitched a complete-game shutout in seven innings, improving to 8-3 on the season and striking out 13 batters. Leonard struck out the side during the second and fourth innings. Williams held an 8-5 advantage in hits.
Williams opened the scoring in the second, as sophomore
Dani Jackman connected on a one-out, one-run double to center, scoring first-year
Haley Barrett. The visitors expanded the lead to 2-0 later in the inning, with Jackman crossing home on an RBI off a fielder's choice by sophomore
Lauren Davis.
Barrett drilled a two-out, RBI double down the left-field line in the third, scoring Miller, and then in the seventh, Miller and Blanch tallied RBI doubles, respectively, to end the scoring.
The second game was a pitchers' duel with only a total of six hits and three runs, as Williams secured the sweep with a 2-1 triumph. Junior
Justine Dunaway went 2 for 3 in the batter's box, with one RBI. Blanch struck out 10 batters in the seven-inning, complete-game victory, as she only allowed three hits and one walk.
The Bantams raced out to a 1-0 advantage in the first inning on a one-out, RBI double to left by Katie Ruffer. Miller crossed home in the fourth for the Ephs with the tying run on an RBI single to shortstop by Dunaway.

Alysa DeQuiroz registered the game-winning RBI, drawing a bases-loaded walk with two down in the fifth, allowing first-year
Cassidy Chew to cross home with the winning run.
The Ephs will compete against Hamilton Saturday in a doubleheader, with game times set for noon and 2 p.m. in Clinton, New York.
