MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - The fourth-seeded and No. 20-ranked Williams College men's tennis team suffered a 4-0 loss to fifth-seeded and No. 17 Amherst Friday morning during the quarterfinal round of the NESCAC Tournament at the John Wood Memorial Tennis Courts on the campus of Wesleyan University.
The Mammoths (13-5, 7-3 NESCAC) earned the one point in doubles competition. Lukas Frangenberg and Andreas Sillaste won by a score of 6-2 at the top slot, and then George Chaidemenos and Rex Harrison prevailed, 7-5, at the second slot. Sillaste (6-4, 6-3), Harrison (6-2, 6-1) and Albert Hu (6-2, 6-2) won at the first, fifth and sixth singles positions, respectively, to secure the victory for Amherst. The Mammoths will take on top-seeded and No. 4 Tufts during the conference semifinals Saturday at 11 a.m. in Middletown, Connecticut.
The Ephs (11-6, 7-3 NESCAC) will learn about their NCAA prospects during the Division III Men's Tennis Selection Show on Monday at 12:30 p.m. This season, Williams defeated then-No. 24 Wesleyan and No. 17 Pomona-Pitzer by the identical score of 4-3 on March 7 and 27, respectively.
