WATERVILLE, Maine — Senior forward and midfielder Claire Colvin of the fifth-ranked Williams College field hockey team recorded one goal and one assist, including the game-winning tally, during a 2-1 triumph against Colby Saturday at Bill Alfond Field.

"It was a competitive NESCAC matchup," said 27th-year head coach Alix Barrale '93. "I am proud of us for getting the job done. Senior Aggie Ryan was a wall on defense and junior goalkeeper Ellie Smith was clutch in the second half. We generated a lot of offense. The Colby goalkeeper robbed us of some goals. She was excellent."

The Ephs (5-0, 3-0 NESCAC) earned their ninth consecutive victory over the Mules (2-2, 0-2 NESCAC) dating back to 2017, as Williams has outscored Colby, 36-6, during that time period. Smith earned the win for the visitors and made six saves, improving to 5-0 on the year and earning her 29th collegiate victory.

First-year defender Hannah Herlihy continued to impress, opening the scoring during the fifth minute. Christina Sweeney found the back of the net for the hosts with 27 seconds left in the first quarter, evening the game at 1-1.

Colvin buried her eighth career game-winning goal in the 17th minute. The Winchester, Massachusetts, native won the ball well beyond the circle, eluded two Colby defenders, drew the goalkeeper out of the net and buried a shot going toward her right into an open net.

The Ephs held an 18-9 advantage in total shots, including a 15-7 lead in shots on target. Williams attempted eight penalty corners and Colby was awarded six. Goalie Ginna Jacoby finished with 12 saves for the Mules.

The Ephs compete against No. 15 Bowdoin Sunday at noon in Brunswick, Maine.
