WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Williams College women's cross country team came just two points shy of a perfect team score on Saturday morning, finishing with 17 points to claim first place at the Purple Valley Classic.
The Ephs placed five runners in the top six and beat out Tufts by 25 points, with the Jumbos finishing second with 42 points.
The Ephs were led by first-year
Sophie Capozzi, who claimed first place overall with a time of 22:00.0, recording a new personal-best. Senior
Tamar Byl followed in second at 22:12.0, while senior
Morgan Eigel finished third in 22:23.0.
First-year Eleanor Barco placed fifth in 22:40.0, followed by senior
Julia Brennan in sixth with a time of 22:48.0.
Estella Laird finished eighth in 23:03.0, while
Hayley Ballard rounded out the Ephs' top seven in 11th place with a time of 23:23.0.
The Ephs will have a weekend off before returning to competition on Oct. 3, when they travel to Northfield, Minn., to compete at Carleton.
