BRIEF HISTORY OF WILLIAMS SIDELINE QUARTERBACK CLUB
The Sideline QB Club was formed in the 66th year of Williams football and has continued without interruption from 1948 to the present day. During the 2022 season the Club celebrated its 75th year of service to Williams football.
The initial gathering of the club, then called “The Monday Morning Quarterback Club,” was held on September 29, 1948 in the Richmond Hotel in North Adams. Then Williams football coach, Len Watters, leaned on Williamstown resident and former Brown University football player, Francis “Tank” Wilson, to use the club as a means of promoting the Williams football program.
There is no official record of a name change to the “Williams Sideline Quarterback Club,” but it appears this took place during the Bob Odell era.
The mission of the club has always been to provide continued support of the Williams football program, encourage an enjoyable relationship among members and contribute to scholarships of direct benefit to deserving athletes from the area attending Williams.
