Williams vs. Amherst, "The Biggest Little Game in America," is the fourth most played rivalry in NCAA football and the most played in Division III.
On November 10, 2007 Williams became the first NCAA Division III school to host ESPN's College GameDay. Williams won 20-0.
In 2001 Williams defeated Amherst 23-20 in the first OT game in the series and the first matchup of undefeated teams entering at 7-0.
Since 1985 combined gatherings of Williams and Amherst alums have been watching "The Biggest Little game in America" via a satellite feed and both schools shared the cost of production. However, in 1994 Amherst elected not to participate in the cost of production and Williams paid the entire fee. Williams won that game played in Amherst 48-14.
The 1995 game played on Weston Field was televised live on ESPN2. The game kicked off at 10:00 a.m., but the natural grass field had been subjected to unusually heavy rain that fall and it was a quagmire. The final score was 0-0 and is the last tie game in the series.
Beginning in 1996 the game has been seen live on the New England Sports Network (NESN) as well as via satellite in the nation's largest cities. The 2010 game was the first to be streamed on a delayed basis on the Internet worldwide. Because of NESN's contract with DirecTV the game could not be streamed online until two hours after kickoff.
The 2013 game was the last to be played on a grass surface on Weston Field.
The 2014 game played on Amherst's renovated Pratt Field was the first to be played under the lights. Surprisingly the new facility at Amherst does not have a visiting team locker room and the Ephs have to dress at the Amherst hockey rink and walk a half mile to the field.
The 2016 game in Amherst was the first not to be aired on TV and only streamed. It was streamed by the Northeast Sports Network (NSN).
Williams currently leads the all-time series through 2022: 75-57-5.
