Mark McDonough enters his ninth season as an Assistant Coach for the Williams College football team in 2025. He serves as the Defensive Coordinator and Defensive Backs Coach.
He was an Assistant Coach on the Ephs' football team in 2021, which finished with an unblemished 9-0 record and first place in the NESCAC.
Previously, he spent six seasons coaching at Ithaca College. From 2011-17, McDonough served as the Defensive Coordinator and Linebackers Coach for the Bombers.
The Bombers led the Liberty League in scoring defense three times (2011, 2013 and 2016). Ithaca finished second in scoring defense in 2014 and 2015, and in 2012, the Bombers were third.
During the 2012 season, McDonough was called upon to serve as the Interim Head Coach at Ithaca for four games.
Prior to joining the Ithaca staff, McDonough coached for seven seasons (2005-11) at Holy Cross, where he coached the inside linebackers for five years and the outside linebackers for one year. He also coached the special teams and served as the film/video coordinator for the Crusaders.
McDonough's first intercollegiate coaching opportunity was at Springfield College from 2003-04, where he coached the Pride's inside linebackers and taught the principles of the 3-4 defense.
Additionally, McDonough was the Linebackers Coach for the USA Football team that won the gold medal at the 2014 World Championships played in Kuwait.
McDonough played linebacker at Ithaca College and earned Third Team All-American honors, played in the 2001 Aztec Bowl vs. Mexico and ended his Ithaca career ranked sixth all-time in tackles.
A 2002 graduate of Ithaca, McDonough earned a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management, and in 2014, he earned a Master of Science in Physical Education, with a concentration in athletic administration, from Springfield.
