Steve Phillips

Steve Phillips joined the Williams men’s basketball staff in September 2018 after spending two years as the assistant coach at Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Virginia.

While at W&L, Phillips worked for head coaches Chris McHugh (2017-2018) and Adam Hutchinson (2016-2017). He was responsible for coordinating W&L’s national recruiting effort, on-court coaching, practice planning, game scouting, and player development. The 2017-2018 season ended with the Generals best ODAC finish since 1989.

Previous to his time at W&L, Phillips spent two years coaching at Mount Saint Mary College, his alma mater, in Newburgh, N.Y. A four-year player at MSMC, Phillips went from walk-on to senior captain and led the winningest class in school history (82-32) to the Skyline Conference Championship game his senior year.

"We’re excited to welcome coach Phillips to our program and the Williams College community," stated Kevin App. “Where he has been as a player and coach, success has followed. We’re excited and fortunate to have Steve working with our student athletes."

A native of New Hyde Park, N.Y., Phillips graduated from Mount Saint Mary College in 2014 with Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Education/Special Education and went on to earn a Master of Science degree in Education from St. John’s University in 2017.
