Bill Schmid

Bill Schmid enters his fourth season as an Assistant Coach for the Williams College men's soccer team in 2025.

During his first season in 2022, the Ephs reached the championship game of the NCAA Division III Tournament. The 2022 squad finished the year ranked second in the nation, as Ben Diffley and Nick Boardman earned D3soccer.com First Team All-American honors. Diffley was also named D3soccer.com Goalkeeper of the Year.

During the 2023 season, Diffley was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Region I Third Team and Eamon Gara Grady was named to the NESCAC All-Conference Second Team.

The 2024 team hosted first and second-round games in the NCAA Tournament at Cole Field, winning the regional and advancing to the Sweet 16. Diffley was named a United Soccer Coaches (USC) Fourth Team All-American.

Schmid joined the Williams College staff in 2022 after three years as an Assistant Men’s Coach at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. During his time at Yale, the Bulldogs broke several program records, including most wins in the 114-year history of the program, first Ivy League Championship since 1991 and Yale’s highest national ranking.
 
Prior to Yale, Schmid spent time in the NESCAC, working with the men’s soccer program at Amherst College. Schmid served as the Recruiting Coordinator and Goalkeeper Coach for Yale and Amherst.
 
Schmid started his collegiate career playing at Springfield College, where he started in goal in 61-of-62 games. After graduating with a bachelor's in physical education in 2016, Schmid joined the Springfield coaching staff and helped the Pride to a 33-3-4 record during his time. Schmid finished his time at Springfield as the Interim Head Coach after receiving a master's in sport psychology in 2018.
