Chris Wootton comes to Williams after serving during the 2015-2016 season as the men's graduate assistant for the University of Texas at Tyler. Wootton helped the UTT men's team to an 18-10 record and their 8th American Southwest Conference title. The season ended with an NCAA Sweet Sixteen defeat at the hands of the Stags of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in Claremont, CA. Wootton coached the duo of Arthur Fagundes and Frankie Fischer to an appearance in the Division III NCAA Championships at Kalamazoo, MI.
Before coaching in the NCAA, Chris competed at the NCAA Division III level from 2011-2015 at the University of Texas at Tyler and Mississippi College. Wootton graduated from the University of Texas at Tyler with a bachelor's degree in business administration in 2015 and is currently completing his M.B.A.
In between the years of 1995 and 2011, Wootton coached and taught tennis at multiple facilities in the Southern United States becoming the Director of Tennis in 2009 at a 14-court public facility in Jackson, MS. While coaching, Wootton has successfully trained over 50 NCAA college tennis players and seven ATP/WTA touring pros.
Wootton's accomplishments on the tennis court began in 1991, at age 15, with the Reebok National Tennis Player of the Year Award in the USA, and ended with the unique honor of being the oldest NCAA Athletic All-American in history, for any sport, at the age of 39 in 2015. He ended the year with an ITA/NCAA ranking of #11 nationally in doubles and #24 in the West region in singles for 2015.
Wootton was ranked in the Top 25 in singles and doubles in Boys 18's in the USTA in 1994. He has six years of professional playing experience with multiple singles and doubles wins over top 100 ATP players.
