Vanessa Brown enters her second year working in Sports Psychology for the Williams women's lacrosse team and ninth year for the Williams volleyball team in 2023-24. Brown is a staff therapist at Integrative Wellbeing Services and holds advanced degrees in Clinical Social Work and Sport Psychology. She is passionate about helping athletes develop mental skills to help them perform at their best, and is interested in how these skills can be applied in the classroom and beyond the athletic arena.

A 2007 graduate of Carleton College with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Brown was a 12-season athlete, competing on the volleyball team and indoor and outdoor track & field teams all four years. She served as captain for the volleyball and track & field teams. She was a four-time Academic All-Conference honoree, All-Conference in track & field, conference champion in volleyball in 2004, and participated in the NCAA Volleyball Tournament as both a student-athlete and coach. As a senior, she earned the Ele Hansen award for positive influence, service and leadership to the Carleton Athletic Department.

Prior to coming to Williams, Brown coached both volleyball and track & field at Macalester and Carleton College, as well as at various high schools and clubs in Minnesota and California. She also was a personal trainer and coached CrossFit for several years. Brown lives in Williamstown with her husband, Tomas, who is the Williams women’s golf coach, their sons, Kiljan and Orri, and their two cats, Ritz and Graham.
