Boxscore

Williamstown, MA – The Williams women's ice hockey team (1-8-0) faced Colby College (5-4-2) this evening at the Lansing Chapman Rink. With a tough 5-2 loss to the Mules, the Ephs are now 1-3-0 in conference play.

The first goal of the game came at 5:52 into the first period during a Colby power play. Colette Finley, assisted by Becky Julian, knocked in a rebound, putting the Mules up 1-0. Amanda Comeau extended the lead when she managed to get past the Eph defense and score on a breakaway at 16:20. Comeau was assisted by Laura Anning. Colby scored again at 18:16 when Becky Julian slipped the puck just inside the right post. Nicole Crocker and Finley collected assists on the play.

Junior Sam Tarnasky answered for the Ephs, near the end of the second period, when she skated past the Colby defenders and blasted the puck deep into the top right corner of the net to put Williams on the board.

The Ephs brought it to within one, at 11:58 in the third period, when sophomore Kait O'Brien netted an assist from sophomore Torrey Taussig. The Ephs, however, were unable to find the equalizer and Colby scored twice more before the end of the game. Finley, assisted by Marissa Mullane and Julian, found the back of the net at 16:38 to put the Mules up 4-2. Then at 17:15, Comeau connected on a rebound to score the Mules' final goal of the game. She was assisted by Heather Nickerson.

Senior Caralyn Quan, junior Sam Tarnasky, and sophomore Kait O'Brien played particularly well for the Ephs this evening. “Caralyn, Sam, and Kait all played great for us today. You could see the fight in them today, the determination to compete. The three of them were really solid,” said Coach Shannon Bryant.

Reflecting on the game, Coach Bryant remarked, “I thought this was our best 60 minute effort of the year. I thought we did a good job. It obviously was not the outcome that we wanted, but I am proud of the effort we gave.”

Going into their game against Bowdoin tomorrow, Coach Bryant said that the Eph's focus is on competing for a solid 60 minutes.

The Ephs will face-off against Bowdoin tomorrow at 3:00 pm.
