WILLIAMSTOWN, MA - In their second match of the day, the Ephs
defeated Simpson College for the first time in ten years,
26-14. Tri-Captain Ethan Cohen '09 got the Ephs started, by
tech-falling his opponent in the closing seconds of the match,
earning five points. The Ephs also received strong performances
from sophomores Carl Breitenstein and Nate Shippee, each winning
two matches on the day. Shippee scored six points twice for the
Ephs winning by default and by pin.
Head coach Dan DiCenzo was pleased to see his team in peak
condition coming off a two week break from competition. DiCenzo
said of today's matches, "Our performance shows that our program
has improved to the point where we can compete with top teams in
the country." The Ephs came into the meet ranked 23rd in
the nation, their highest ranking in team history.
Saturday the 2-1 Ephs will host the Williams Invitational
Tournament.

In the second match of today's tri-meet, the Ithaca Bombers
handed the Ephs their first loss of the season by the score of
25-12. Ithaca, ranked number ten in the nation, got off to a quick
start winning the first four bouts of the match. The Ephs began
chipping away at Ithaca's lead as Breitenstein defeated Nick Sanko
in a close 6-3 match. Shippee was the next to put a dent in the
lead, pinning Brandon Stark at 23 seconds into the second period.
Kyle Ayer '09 followed Shippee's pin with an 8-2 victory over Jamie
Facenda.

Ithaca shutout Simpson today, 38-0, in the opening match of the
tri-meet hosted by the Ephs. Ithaca sealed their victory with
consecutive major decisions by William Horwath and Blaine Woszczak
at 144 and 149, respectively. The Bombers also got six points out
of Brandon Stark at 184.
