AMHERST, Ma. – The Ephs focus on doubles earlier this
season paid off as they swept the doubles play en route to a 6-3
win over archrival Amherst.
“Competition between Amherst and Williams is always close
and comes down to who is more prepared,” said Coach Alison
Swain. “We came out today prepared and played great offensive
tennis.”
At number one doubles, the Eph duo of Cary Gibson/Nikki Reich
avenged their loss in the finals of last week's Middlebury
Doubles Tournament to the Lord Jeffs Brittany Berckes/Natasha
Brown. First-year Kristin Alotta continued her doubles success,
partnering up with Genny Loomis to win 8-5 over Jill Wexler/Laura
Danzig.
In singles, Annie Hancock dealt Danzig her first singles loss of
the year at number five with a 6-3, 7-5 victory. Alotta also played
strongly at number four, winning 6-4, 7-5 over Laken King. Gibson
and Berckes continued their tradition of three set matches at
number one singles.
This victory also comes without the play of Grace Baljon '10 and
Lucy Marchese '11. Baljon, who consistently played number two
singles last season, is abroad for the semester. Marchese will
return in the spring coming off an injury sustained last March. She
experienced great success at number three singles as a first-year.
This win is indicative of the strength and determination of the
entire Eph lineup.
Eph Women's Tennis concludes their fall dual match schedule
tomorrow at Wellesley.
