BRUNSWICK, ME – The Williams women's ice hockey team lost a hard fought game to Bowdoin College this evening, 6-4. Bowdoin improves to 5-7-3 on the season, while the Ephs now stand at 1-13-2.

Bowdoin scored first in tonight's NESCAC match-up, when Lindsay McNamara netted an unassisted goal at 11:45 to put the Polar Bears up 1-0.

Senior captain Caralyn Quan answered for the Ephs at the very start of the second period. Scoring with only ten seconds elapsed, Quan was assisted by juniors Mallory Green and Sam Tarnasky to tie the game at 1-1. The Polar Bears regained the lead at 5:05 when Shana Natelson converted a Chelsea Young assist. Despite the back and forth nature of the game, Bowdoin was able to hold on to their lead for the remainder of the game.

Katie Coyne took advantage of an Eph penalty to extend the Polar Bears lead to 2 at the 8:37 mark in the second period. Scoring on the power play, Coyne was assisted by Katherine Pokrass. Less than a minute later, Quan responded by scoring her second goal of the night for the Ephs. Joey Lye and Tarnasky collected assists on the play. Bowdoin quickly followed with another goal at 10:14, courtesy of Bethany Croskey. She was assisted by McNamara and Kat Popoff. Before the end of the period, senior Sarah Nowakowski netted another goal for the Ephs to bring the score within one. Scoring on the power play, Nowakowski was assisted by Allie Morrow and Tarnasky.

Entering the third period up 4-3, the Polar Bears quickly capitalized on an early Eph penalty to bring the score to 5-3. Natelson, assisted by Coyne and Pokrass, netted the goal at 2:37. The Ephs came back to score at 8:46, when Quan connected on an Allison Page assist for a hat trick. Bowdoin's Pokrass scored once more before the end of the game for a final score of 6-4. She was assisted by Coyne and McNamara.

Eph goaltender Betsy Laurin made 22 saves in tonight's loss, while Bowdoin's Emiliegh Mercer blocked 14 shots.

“It was a great game, really back and forth, a lot of transition hockey. It was very exciting. I am very proud of my team and the way they played tonight. They stuck with it and we had a chance to win going into the third period. I think with the way we played tonight we have a lot of momentum going into tomorrow's game,” said Coach Shannon Bryant of the game.

Still on the road, the Ephs will face-off against Colby College at 3:00 pm tomorrow.
