WILLIAMSTOWN, MA – In a NESCAC match-up, the Williams women's ice hockey team suffered a 7-1 loss to Amherst College this evening at the Lansing Chapman Rink. The Ephs dropped to 3-16-2 on the season, while the Lord Jeffs, who are currently ranked 5th in the country, improved to 15-3-3 with the win.

The Ephs' defense saw a lot of action in the first period, with Amherst outshooting Williams 17 to 10. Kate Dennett put the Lord Jeffs on the board at the 10:23 mark when, having received a pass from Michelle McGann, she launched the puck into the top right corner of the net. Extending their lead to two, Molly Malloy netted a second goal for the Lord Jeffs at 17:35. She was assisted by Katherine Kelly and Courtney Hanlon.

The Ephs answered early in the second period when senior Caralyn Quan knocked in junior Sam Tarnasky's rebounded shot to put Williams within one. Yet when the Ephs found themselves in penalty trouble midway through the period, the Lord Jeffs quickly capitalized on their advantage. With two Eph players in the penalty box, Dennett quickly notched a goal for Amherst when she redirected a shot from Hanlon at 11:10. Also assisting on the play was McGann, who followed with a goal of her own only 34 seconds later. With the Lord Jeffs still on the power play, McGann was assisted by Hanlon. Amherst scored again at the 14:25 mark when Julie Radziewicz sent the puck flying into the far right corner of the net. McGann and Dennett both collected assists on the play.

Scoring early in the third period, Hanlon expanded the Lord Jeff's lead to five, with a score of 6-1. She was assisted by Lindsey Harrington and Malloy. With two Eph players in the penalty box, once again, CC Wyshnytzky notched the final goal of the game at 19:52. Despite getting off 14 shots in the third period, the Ephs couldn't find the back of the net, for a final score of 7-1.

The Ephs will play Connecticut College tomorrow afternoon at 3:00pm.
