WELLESLEY, MASS-The Williams men's ice hockey team (8-10-4) lost
for just the second time in their last seven contests Saturday
afternoon as host Babson College (15-5-3) won by a score of
7-2. The Beavers scored the first six goals of the game, as
the Ephs failed to come out of the gate with as much intensity as
was necessary.
"We didn't come out as hard as we wanted to," said Eph Coach
Bill Kangas, "hard work is what we're all about and I think we got
away from that tonight."
Alex Smigelski scored both goals for the Ephs, the first coming
at the end of the second period while the second came just moments
before the final horn.
Babson killed the Ephs in shots on goal, firing 38 shots at Eph
goaltenders Marc Pulde and Rick Redmond, while the Ephs managed
just 18. The majority of those shots came against Skylar
Nipps, whose record improved to exactly that of his team with the
win.
For the victorious Beavers, Casey Fazekas and Pat McLaughlin led
all scorers with three points apiece.
"Babson's an excellent team," said Kangas, "I think we learned
that there's a fine line between winning and losing as far as our
intensity goes...Monday's going to be a big practice."
The Ephs will return to action at home versus Hamilton this
Friday. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
