Ephs take finale with Hamilton, 11-2

CLINTON, N.Y. -- The Williams College softball team kept its collective hitting shoes on Sunday, pounding out 14 more hits en route to an 11-2, 5-inning win over Hamilton in the finale of a three-game series.

The Ephs are back at .500 after the win, sitting at 13-13 overall and 4-2 in conference play. They host Springfeld Monday for a twinbill beginning at 3:30 p.m.

Williams scored 11 runs in all three games of the sweep, finishing the series with 33 runs scored and 46 hits. Junior shortstop Joey Lye finished off another solid weekend by going 3 for 3 Sunday with two doubles - both coming in a seven-run first inning - a walk, two runs scored and two RBI. Lye went 10 for 12 in the three game-set.

Junior Morgan Simpson also had another big day, going 2 for 3 at the plate with a triple, double and one RBI, and picking up the win from the circle, going five innings and allowing just three hits and no walks. She struck out one.

The Ephs' seven-run first provided more than enough cushion for Simpson. Lye led off the game with a double and promptly scored on an RBI-single from Becky Sansone. Senior Katie Powers followed with an RBI-triple. She scored on an RBI-double by Simpson. Senior Taryn Goodman singled, and Caitlyn Cain's single scored Simpson. Mary Gelber lashed out a double that scored Goodman for a 5-0 lead, and Lye capped the uprising with her second double of the frame, this one scoring Cain and Gelber.

Sansone went 2 for 4 with an RBI in the win. Powers was 2 for 4 with a triple and two RBI, and Goodman was 2 for 3 with a runs scored an an RBI.
