WILLIAMSTOWN, MA — Junior Libby Copeland-Halperin connected for a pair of two-run homers in the nightcap Monday to help the Williams College softball team to a 5-3 victory and a split of its doubleheader with Springfield College at Cole Field.

With the win in the second game, the Ephs evened their record at 14-14 overall. They are at Keene State for a twinbill Wednesday beginning at 4 p.m. The Pride moved to 17-13 on the season with the split.

Williams jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of game two. With two outs, Katie Powers worked a walk off Springfield starter Katie Anderson. Copeland-Halperin followed with a home run to straightaway center field.

That combo was at it again in the third for the Ephs. This time, Powers drew a lead-off walk from Anderson. Copeland-Halperin then followed with a long home run to left-center field for a 4-0 Williams lead.

The Ephs added another run in the fourth when Joey Lye, who extended her consecutive times reaching base streak to 13 before flying out in the first game, singled and scored on a double by Powers.

Williams starter Margaret Ryan held the Pride hitless threw 3 2/3 innings but was removed because of a pitch count after walking two batters in the top of the fourth. First-year Mary Beth Daub worked out of the jam with a strike out.

Springfield got on the board in the fifth when Angela Atkins crushed a solo home run to left field off Daub. A two-run double by Amanda Novak in the sixth got the Pride within two runs, but Williams senior Morgan Simpson came on in the seventh to close the door and earn a save.

Copeland-Halperin was 3 for 3 with four RBI and two runs scored in the win. Lye was 2 for 4 and Caitlyn Cain went 2 for 3.

Springfield took the opener 4-2, scoring twice in the top of the seventh to snap a 2-2 tie. Michelle Wlosek's RBI-single brought the go-ahead run home and Jamie Moran added an insurance run with an RBI-single to center.

Pride hurler Samantha Rhodes earned the victory, scattering 10 hits over seven innings while walking one and striking out three. Wlosek went 3 for 4 at the plate, while Denise Fumicello was 2 for 3 with one RBI and Moran 2 for 3 with two RBI.
