MIDDLETOWN, CT. -- The Williams College softball team saw its
season come to a conclusion Saturday morning with a 13-3 loss at
the hands of host Wesleyan on the second day of the NESCAC
Tournament.
Williams completed its campaign with a 19-20 mark.
The Ephs fell behind quickly 1-0 Saturday but rebounded with
three runs in the bottom of the first off Wesleyan starter Karla
Hargrave. Junior Joey Lye got things started by beating out a
tapper in front of the plate. Becky Sansone looped a single into
center field, and senior Katie Powers followed with a long blast
over the field in left for a three-run homer, her sixth of the
season.
Unfortunately for the Ephs, Wesleyan came right back with three
in the top of the second and never looked back. A two-out error
kept the inning alive for the Cardinals, and Talia Bernstein's
two-run single gave them a 4-3 lead.
In the top of the third, after another error extended the
inning, Wesleyan's No. 9 hitter, Anu Rimal, smacked a two-run homer
to left that made it 6-3. Williams first-year Mary Beth Daub was
saddled with the loss, allowing five hits and four walks over 2 2/3
innings. All six runs charged to her were unearned.
