SPRINGFIELD, MA -- The Williams College
wrestling team defeated Division II American International College,
38-9, Wednesday night at Butova Gymnasium.
The Ephs (8-2-1) started the night with a comfortable 12 point
cushion after the injury depleted AIC squad was forced to forfeit
matches at the 125 and 133 pound weight classes. The
Yellowjackets were never able to recover, as the Ephs put on a
dominant performance winning 6 of the remaining 8 matches.
Junior Dylan Rittenburg continued his impressive run, battling Sam
Guavine for the 5-3 victory. Carl Breitenstein '10 followed
Rittenburg's win with a 6-0 shutout of Vladimir Bereshenko.
Sophomore Jon Foster also stepped up, sealing the victory for the
Ephs with a pin over John Mullinix. Finally, Drew Gatewood
'10 and Nate Shippee '10 finished off the win with a major decision
and a pin, respectively.
Co-head coach Dan DiCenzo was pleased with his team's
performance, "This was a great opportunity for us. Any time
you can get a win against a DII opponent is great. AIC is an
up and coming program...in a few years they will be a team to watch
out for."
The Ephs next competition will be at the NEWA Dual Meet
Tournament at Roger Williams on January 18.
