WILLIAMSTOWN, MA -- The Williams College
men's swimming and diving team (5-3) won its third consecutive dual
meet Saturday afternoon as they defeated Springfield 188-110.
The victory was extra special for graduating seniors Benjamin
Bodurian, Tyler Bonewell, Jeremy Goldstein, Thatcher Heumann, David
Lebovitz, Tim Ryan, Norman Scott, and Quinlan Sievers who
participated in the final home meet of their career.
"First, on both sides, there were about twenty seniors who
finished their home career today and it means a lot to have such a
larger group commit four years of hard work to this program," said
head coach Steve Kuster. "I am proud of every single senior
who participated in today's meet."
On a day where the class of 2009 was celebrated, seniors Scott,
Bonewill, Lebovitz, and Heumann did not disappoint, as all four
posted event victories. Scott placed first in the 1000 yard
freestyle (10:10.14), 100 yard freestyle (48.50), and the 200 yard
IM (2:01.41), while Heumann took the 200 yard breaststroke
(2:16.03). Bonewell topped the field in the 100 yard
breaststroke (1:00.79), while Lebovitz led the pack in the 500 yard
freestyle (4:54.73).
The Ephs totaled twelve event victories on the day as junior
Jordan Hollander and first year Stuart Horgan both had multiple
wins. Hollander led all swimmers in the 100 yard freestyle
(55.84) and the 200 yard backstroke (2:00.86) while Horgan placed
first in the 200 yard butterfly (1:59.26) and the 100 yard
butterfly (54.09). Sophomore Gary Roberson also contributed
with a victory in the 200 yard freestyle (1:46.84).
"We have a lot to work on over the next five weeks if we want to
make a serious run at another NESCAC title and I feel that this
group has what it takes to put forth that kind of effort," said
Kuster.
The Ephs continue NESCAC action next Saturday with a dual meet
at Middlebury that begins at 1:00 PM.
