MIDDLEBURY, VT- The Williams College men's swimming and
diving team (6-3) won ten events en route to an important victory
against NESCAC rival Middlebury Saturday afternoon, 163-134.
The Ephs have now won four consecutive dual meets since falling to
Amherst.
"We came out today and did what we had to do
against Middlebury," said head coach Steve Kuster. "Our next
goal as a team is to get healthy in the next couple weeks and start
to assemble our best group for the NESCAC championships."
The key for the Ephs was several impressive performances across
many events. Seniors Norman Scott and Tyler Bonewell, as well
as junior Gary Roberson and sophomore Chris Milliken, all posted
multiple event victories in their respective specialties.
Scott won both the 100 yard (51.24) and 200 yard (1:52.61)
butterfly events, while Bonewell swept the 100 yard (59.69) and the
200 yard (2:09.06) breaststroke events.
In the diving events, Milliken gave the Ephs a clean sweep in
the 1 meter (251.55) and the 3 meter (240.00) dives, while Roberson
claimed the victory in the two distance events- the 1650 yard
freestyle (16:39.27) and the 500 yard freestyle (4:49.94).
Rounding out the top finishes for the Ephs was senior David
Lebovitz, who led all swimmers in the 200 yard freestyle (1:47.54).
After concluding the dual meet portion of the regular season,
the Ephs now look forward to next weekend's MIT Invitational,
followed by the NESCAC championships on February 27th.
