BRUNSWICK, ME -- Williams continued its winning ways Friday
night, coming one minute and twenty-six seconds away from a shutout
before defeating Bowdoin College by a 3-1 score.
The victory puts the Ephs at 3-7-1 on the season, and it marks
their third victory in four games, as well as their first victory
ever at the Daytona Arena. The loss brings the Polar Bears to
1-6-0 on the year.
"It was a back and forth game and both teams had a lot of
chances," commented head coach Shannon Bryant. "It was
a truly exciting game and a fun one to win."
Junior Sara Plunkett, who just missed back-to-back
shutouts, had what her coach called "an amazing game," as she
stopped 24 Bowdoin shots, including 10 shots in the second
period. Senior forward Sam Tarnasky also turned in an
excellent performance, as she "frustrated the opponent and
created scoring chances" for her team. Her aggressive play
earned her a power-play goal at 6:06 in the third period to ice the
game for the Ephs. Assisting on the her thrid of the
year was her co-captain senior defenseman Joey Lye.
Tarnasky also set-up sophomore forward Stephanie
Berger's game-winner with help from sophomore defenseman
Lauren Zurek, at 11:40 in the second on a timely loose-puck
goal. Eliza Foster also put in a backhander at 4:00 of that
period, her fourth of the season, to open the Williams offensive
attack.
The Polar Bears did manage to net one at 18:34 of the final
period, as forward Katherine Pokrass wristed in her first.
Bowdoin had several opportunities throughout the game, the best
coming late in the first on a 2-on-1 break, but Pokrass missed the
net on the one-time attempt.
The Ephs are enjoying success and playing well in recent games,
but they will have another tough divisional opponent omorrow
afternoon in Colby. First faceoff is set for 3:00PM at the
Mules' Alford Rink in Waterville, Maine.
