Williamstown, MA – Just
two days after traveling to New Haven to take on the Yale Bulldogs,
the Ephs were back in town today at the Simon Squash Center,
brimming with energy and preparing to take on three challengers:
Middlebury, Harvard and Tufts. A packed crowd buzzed around the
courts all day taking in the great squash.
The first match of was at 11AM against
Middlebury. The Panthers came in ranked No. 13 in the nation. The
No. 8 Ephs came out ready to play and blanked their opponent with a
convincing 9-0 victory. However, this served as merely a warm-up
for a much harder matchup against Harvard.

The No. 2 ranked Crimson posed a much larger
problem. Just to give an idea, Harvard's number 9 player on
their ladder, Emily Park, was the number one rated junior in the
nation for the 2007-2008 season. The marquee matchup between the
two squads was between the school's number ones -- Toby Eyre
of Williams and Laura Gemmell of Harvard. Gemmell pulled off a
miniature upset, with the No. 4 nationally ranked Gemmell defeating
No. 3 nationally ranked Eyre in three games (11-6, 11-7, 11-8). The
Ephs played their hearts out against the talented opponent but the
result was as expected – a loss.

The women looked to finish the long day on the
upswing with a 5PM matchup against No. 19 Tufts. The Jumbos
didn't disappoint as the Ephs crushed them in 9 dominant
matches.
