PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - Riding a four-game winning streak and
playing their best hockey of the year, the Williams College men's
hockey team looked poised to challenge the 17-1-2 and NCAA top
ranked Plattsburgh Cardinals Monday night. However, the Ephs
surrendered two goals each period and were handed a 6-1 defeat in
the non-conference showdown at Stafford Ice Arena.
The Cardinals doubled the Eph shot production (Williams: 18,
Plattsburgh: 36) in the win.
"They were the better team, and they played well while we
didn't," remarked Eph head coach Bill Kangas, "It just shows that
we have a lot we have to keep working on. Hopefully, we can use
this to motivate us for the last six regular season games."
The Cardinals picked up a pair of goals from Joey Wilson and
Kyle Kudroch just 38 seconds apart midway through the first period
to set the tone for the rest of the game.
Plattsburgh got a power play goal each from Wilson and
Dan Sliasis during the second period, after Matt Masucci netted the
lone goal of the evening for the Ephs. Phil Farrow and Eric Satim
closed out the evening in the third with a goal apiece for
Plattsburgh.
However, the Ephs did at times show flashes of their potential
and limited their penalties (Williams: 3, Plattsburgh: 3), an
area which had been plaguing them, in the loss.
The Cardinals' now boast the second-best record in school
history after 20 games. The 1991-92 NCAA Championship squad started
18-1-1 en route to a 32-2-2 season.
Williams will look to get past the non-conference misstep when
they return to conference play this Friday, at Norwich. That game
is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM.
