MIDDLETOWN, CT- The Williams College men's swimming and
diving team rebounded from a 66 point deficit after Day 1 of the
NESCAC championships to take a 52.5 point advantage over Tufts
University going into Sunday's final day. The Ephs claimed
three individual event championships en route to impressive
turnaround on Day 2.
The top performance on the day was in the 1000 yard freestyle,
where the Ephs swam the three fastest times and claimed the top
three point totals. Sophomore Gary Roberson set a NESCAC
record with his time of 9:20.56, while sophomore David Thompson
(9:47.70) and senior Jeremy Goldstein (9:47.78) helped the Ephs
gain substantial ground in just one event.
The Ephs also received strong contributions from two of their
top seniors in Norman Scott and Tyler Bonewell. Scott grabbed
the NESCAC record in the 100 yard butterfly (48.89), while Bonewell
topped the field in the 100 yard breaststroke. The pair also
teamed up with senior Tim Ryan and sophomore Andrew D'Ignazio to
finish third in the 200 yard Medley relay (1:32.26).
Rounding out the top achievements for the Ephs was sophomore
Worth McDonald who had another strong day by placing second in the
100 yard backstroke.
The Ephs enter the NESCAC championship's final day tomorrow with
a chance to win their seventh consecutive title. The
preliminary races begin at 10 AM and are followed by the finals at
5:30 PM.
