WILLIAMSTOWN, MA — First-year Margie Fulton scored four
goals and assisted on three others Wednesday to lead Williams
College to a 13-6 conference win over Connecticut College at Renzie
Lamb Field.
The Ephs improved to 6-2 overall with the victory and 3-2 in the
NESCAC while Conn. College fell to 2-6 overall and 0-5 in
conference play.
Williams is at Amherst Saturday for a 12 p.m. showdown with the
Lord Jeffs.
"We've been talking about playing 60 minutes with intensity,"
Williams head coach Chris Mason said. "I think the team was fired
up about that and we came out and played with a lot of intensity
today. We moved the ball fairly well today and created
opportunities for each other."
Williams jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first seven minutes of
the contest and never trailed throughout. Whitney Thayer converted
a free position shot 1:10 into the game, and Tina Nawrocki made it
2-0 at the 23:14 mark when she received a pass from Fulton and
slipped a shot by Camels goalie Jenna Ross.
The closest the visitors would get on the day came 3:23 later
when senior captain Emily Mason whirled around the goal and an Eph
defender and bounced a shot past Williams goalie Julia Schreiber.
From there the Ephs would score five consecutive times to build
a 7-1 advantage. Fulton would score three of those five goals and
assist on another. The Camels would cut the lead to 7-3 at the
half, but Williams' goals by Britt Spackman, Tina Nawrocki and
Whitney Thayer to begin the second half would put the game back out
of reach.
Katelyn Driscoll had two goals and two assists for Conn.
College, while Ashley Crutchfield also scored twice in the loss.
Mason had one goal, one assist and a team-leading four groundballs.
Ross finished with eight saves.
Besides Fulton's big day, the Ephs had four different players
score twice. Tina Nawrocki had two goals and two assists, Taylor
Fleishhacker had two goals and one assist, and Julia Nawrocki and
Thayer scored twice.
Schreiber finished with nine saves for Williams.
