BRUNSWICK,
ME—Williams women's lacrosse (6-4, 3-4 NESCAC) lost a
hard fought battle to NESCAC rival Bowdoin (7-6, 2-5 NESCAC) with a
final score of 10-7.
Williams was first on the board when junior
Tracey Ferriter capitalized on a pass from senior Julia Nawrocki
two and a half minutes into the game. Bowdoin's Lindsay McNamara
and Libby Barton both answered back with goals before Williams
freshman Margie Fulton scored one of her own to tie the game 2-2 at
19:46.
Bowdoin stepped up their play in the next ten
minutes, scoring four goals in a row. However, Williams finished the
half strong with goals from Fulton, Ferriter, and Nawrocki in the
last five minutes.
The half ended with a 6-5 advantage to Bowdoin.
The second half began with another four goal
scoring streak from Bowdoin, so that Bears were ahead 10-5 with 15
minutes to play.
Three of the goals were unassisted, and one came off a free
position shot.
Williams's final two goals, from Senior
Britt Spackman and freshman Katie Ellis, came at 10:30 and 9:32
respectively. Bowdoin
stalled in the last ten minutes, and while the Ephs successfully
recaptured the ball four times, they were unable to capitalize.
Steph Collins-Finn made 8 save for Bowdoin,
while sophomore Julia Schreiber turned 9 aside for the Ephs. Both teams were plagued
with yellow cards, with Bowdoin receiving 4 and Williams racking up
5.
Ephs head coach Chris Mason thought her team
played hard, and was impressed Bowdoin's play: “Everyone played hard, but
Bowdoin had a great game. We had some turnovers that hurt
us, but it was a good effort.” Mason noted that Ju
lia Nawrocki played particularly hard on offense Tracey Ferriter
played well at both ends of the field.
The Ephs next game is 7:00pm on Wednesday
April 15th at Skidmore.
