WILLIAMSTOWN, MA. – After suffering a disappointing loss to Amherst yesterday, Williams women's tennis (12-1, 4-1) bounced back in a Sunday doubleheader, defeating both Bowdoin (7-6, 4-2) and Colby (4-7, 0-6) in 9-0 scores in their final two home matches of the 2008-2009 regular season.

Eighteenth-ranked Bowdoin headed to Williamstown coming off a 6-3 upset over 15th-ranked Middlebury on Saturday.  Having won four of their last five matches, the Polar Bears were riding a wave of confidence.  Williams sent a message early, putting the visiting team in a daunting 3-0 hole.

Grace Baljon and Taylor French had an easy time at court two, as did Annie Hancock and Kristin Alotta, winning in 8-2 and 8-3 results respectively.  Cary Gibson and Nikki Reich managed to defeat Sarah D'Elia and Emily Lombardi by a narrow 9-7 margin.

In singles play, Kristin Alotta finished off her opponent quickly, giving up only one game in a 6-1, 6-0 win over Charlotte Hitch.  Annie Hancock and Grace Baljon also won in straight sets.  Lucy Marchese recorded her first win of the season, pulling out a first set tiebreak to win in two.  Reich and Ashley Parsons win in three, pulling out dominant third sets.

The team had just an hour's rest before returning to the courts to take on Colby.  Williams' head coach Alison Swain switched up the doubles pairs.  Marchese and Parsons saw doubles action for the first time this season, and easily took their match, 8-4.  The first two Williams pairs took 8-2 wins for another dominating performance in the early going.

The Ephs domination continued into singles play, as no Williams player gave up more than two sets.  Katie Friedman was dominant at court six, delivering a knock out 6-0, 6-0 performance against Sally Meehan.

Williams will travel to Trinity next Saturday at 11:00 a.m. for the final weekend of regular season competition.
