CLINTON,
NY. – Williams women's tennis (16-1, 6-1)
rounded out a nearly perfect regular season with a 9-0 trouncing
over conference opponent Hamilton (1-14, 0-7). The Ephs went undefeated this
weekend in individual match play, going 18-0 in overpowering
performances over their opponents.
Williams began the match with a solid 3-0
showing in doubles.
Cary Gibson and Nikki Reich were involved in the closest contest of
the match, but still defeated Ashley Pardoe and Laura Brantley by a
three-game margin in an 8-5 victory. The Williams pairs at court two
and three had an easier go at their Hamilton counterparts, winning
in 8-3 and 8-1 results, respectively.
In singles play, no Eph player relinquished
more than two games in a set. Grace Baljon, Taylor French, and
Caroline Capute lost only one game in identical 6-1, 6-0 wins. Ashley Parsons also lost
only game, which come in the second set, winning 6-0, 6-1 against
Hamilton's Deborah Barany. Gibson and Katie Freidman were
equally dominant in their straight set wins.
“We feel great about his weekend and our
regular season,” commented Williams' head coach Alison
Swain. “What a
way to finish, we are excited to be in postseason play. We know we
can still improve and now is the time when we work on individual
things in practice to make sure every person feels they are playing
their best.”
Williams will host the NESCAC tournament this
weekend. First-round
action begins on Friday at 9:00 a.m.
