SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. Despite two goals scored in the
opening and closing minutes, Skidmore's 5 point accumulation there
between was enough to top the Ephs (2-9) Sunday afternoon clinching
the Thoroughbred's (12-1) 11th straight victory on the
season. Annie Rosencrans contributed 2 of Skidmore's 5 goals
while seniors Katie Potter, Lauren McCarthy, and Christine Kemp
each tallied a goal for their squad lifting Skidmore past
Williams.
Junior Eph Karyn
Moss (Medfield, Mass.) grabbed a pass from junior Margie Fulton
(Wesleyan, Mass.) across the circle just over five minutes into
competition and made good on her shot giving Williams an early 1-0
lead over the Thoroughbreds at 5:28. Skidmore answered with 5
consecutive goals split between each half. At 21:50
Rosencrans and Kemp converted a penalty corner play into a goal and
assist, respectively, raising the score to a 1-1 draw. Potter
scored with an unassisted putback off a save at 32:59 awarding the
Thoroughbreds a 1 point advantage leading into the second
half. Skidmore finished the half with a 15-1 shot edge and
9-1 penalty corner lead.
Just two minutes into the second frame McCarthy found the back
of the net from the top of the circle lifting Skidmore to a 3-1
lead. Rosencrans picked up a loose ball in front of the
goal at 50:03 scoring her second goal of the competition and
eleventh on the season. Three minutes later, Jackie Slocombe
connected with Kemp for the Thoroughbred's fifth and final goal of
the match.
With 4:49 remaining on the clock the Ephs reduced the 4 point
disparity to 3 when Fulton received a pass from freshman Eph Emily
Jablonski (Madison, Conn.) at the top of the circle and directed
the ball past the Thoroughbred's defense into the cage.
Though the Ephs elevated their offensive pressure in the second,
Skidmore outshot the purple cows 12-8 and had one more penalty
corner opportunity than their opponents tallying a total of 7 for
the half.
Senior tricaptain Katrina Tulla (New
Canaan, Conn.) played an active 70 minutes in the cage tallying 13
saves and 5 goals allowed for Williams while Liz Catinella and
Margaux Hoagland of Skidmore spent 62:50 and 7:10 in the goal,
respectively. Each allowed one goal while Catinella acquired
2 saves to Hoagland's 1 for the competition.
The Ephs will play another non-conference match this Wednesday
at home at 6PM against Union.
